About

The longer version.

Some people see business, health, and the environment as separate conversations. I see one conversation. Here's how I got there.

I'm Ovie Mughelli. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, raised by Nigerian parents in a family that made discipline feel like a gift. College ball at Wake Forest. Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2003 — a fullback in an era when the position was already disappearing.

Nine seasons in the NFL between the Ravens and Atlanta Falcons. Two All-Pro selections. After my last Falcons season in 2010, I retired from active play in 2012 and went back to school the same year — MBA at George Washington University. I wanted the language and the frameworks for what I'd been watching from the inside for a decade: how organizations actually work, what makes culture compound, where the leverage points hide.

A year before the MBA, in 2008, I founded ONO Consulting. A year after, in 2009, I founded The Ovie Mughelli Foundation — a 501(c)(3) for youth environmental education. Both have run for over fifteen years.

Then my two youngest children were born premature.

That experience changed how I thought about everything. Human health and planetary health are connected. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. The foundation's mission tightened — environmental education through sports, partnered with Comics Uniting Nations and UNICEF on the Gridiron Greencomic series teaching the UN's Sustainable Development Goals to kids. Goal: 20,000 kids a year.

Human health and planetary health are connected.

The same year I joined the Medical University of South Carolina Hollings Cancer Center Advisory Board — first Black member, first NFL player on the board. The healthcare work, the environmental work, the consulting work, the speaking work — same source. Different rooms.

Today

What I'm doing now.

Today I run ONO Consulting — a benefits and strategic advisory practice for businesses from 50 to 10,000+ employees. I represent national brand partners including AFLAC, Walmart, Roku, Lipton, and Post Cereal. I sit on the Hollings Cancer Center Advisory Board. I speak — at the White House Sports and Sustainability Conference, the U.S. Department of State Sustainability Award Presentation, Lambeau Field, Earth Day on the Mall, and executive convenings nationwide.

I'm based in Atlanta with my family. When I take on new work, it's because the fit is right and the problem is real.
